Mariusgenseren is a knitted sweater with a special pattern.

years ago the first “Mariusgenser” was made. It was made by the Norwegian
designer Unn Soiland. The pattern in “Mariusgenseren” is different, depended on
witch store you buy it in. The most popular pattern is this pattern:

The first men who were pictured with the “Mariusgenser” were the alpinist and OL-winner Stein Eriksen and his brother Marius Eriksen. They had two different kind of sweaters. It was the pattern on Marius’ sweater who became the most popular in Norway:
Marius Eriksen was not just an alpinist and OL-winner, but he was also an actor. He played in a film called "Troll i ord" and all the actors in that film had to wear the "mariusgenser". Then it became more popular than ever.
